The Redwood House
In Morgantown, we 6 hearty participants were scattered over several miles of town, but here in Green Bank, we had access to a GBO house used for visiting scientists, teachers, and other professional visitors. So, if nothing else, we 6 would be living and working together 24/7 for two solid weeks. (Spoiler Alert...We all survived and are still friends...I think?!) As long as we never reveal the whole truth about that weekend game of Spoons, they might even let us come back!
The Redwood House (see picture) is a 3 bedroom (2 beds each), 2 bathroom house with partitioned finished basement for more beds, so probably 2000+ sq ft of living space. It cost us an "exorbitant" $10 a day per person to stay here. With Dan claiming a small alcove with his inflatable bed, we each ended up with our own room. I personally found it to be an idea size and location for our group. Kevin, Pranav, and the 2 undergrads stayed in the "Nut House" (Redwood House makes sense...Nut House...I don't know...Maybe they established "Anutter House" for folks to stay) However, they came over most days for dinner, so we often had the 10 of us in the house in the evenings. The big living room was accommodating. The strangest thing was since we are in Green Bank where no Wi-Fi is allowed, there were many ethernet cables criss-crossing the floor.
We had loosely decided in Morgantown that each person would be responsible for an evening meal, but everyone on their way here bought a stock of other foods, so by the first night, we were well stocked!
So, food was never an issue. We probably ate too well. Even with 300-400 miles of biking over the 6 weeks, I think I came back about even in weight. The rest of these pictures is just snapshots of life at Redwood...
